A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
I am sometimes guilty of working in our home office and pulling out our wedding album that is tucked neatly on the shelf.
I’ll walk out secretly crying happy tears (for some reason I feel like I have to hide my happy tears because, growing up, my sister and I always used to make fun of our mom for crying over sappy stuff. Thanks, karma).
Andy knows by now that I usually cry only over one of two things so he will ask me one of two questions: “Did you look at wedding photos?” or “What sad animal video did you watch?”
I’m not sure what’s happening as I get older but the sap inside me is real. Sooo today I figured I’d share my favorite wedding photos that I highly suggest you have taken on your wedding day. I remember wedding planning kept me so busy that I wasn’t sure there would even be time to think of wedding photos. Let me save you the time of spending hours on Pinterest trying to pin the best wedding photos and list what I consider to be ten must have shots on your wedding day.
However, we would not have had all of these great, must-have shots without the guidance and creative vision of our photographer, Renee. She was amazing to work with and captured all of the little details throughout the day. Having a wedding photographer who is open to ideas and who can offer an artistic approach is very valuable. Renee did all that and more. If you want the best photographer around, check out Renee Nicole Photography !
There is an amazing feeling that will come rushing back to you when you look at your wedding photos. Seeing that day in pictures will take you back to the same exact moment, place, and will flood you with emotions. Here are my top ten favorite photos and why you need them on your wedding photo shot list for your big day!
First Look with Bridesmaids
I’ve mentioned before the reasons why I did a first-look with my bridesmaids in my post about finding your perfect dress .
This picture makes me start to tear up EVERY SINGLE TIME. My girls look beautiful and it makes me so happy that they all stood by my side on our big day. Thank you will never seem like enough – love you, girls!
There’s something SO special about this moment, I don’t know why it’s not talked about more in the wedding world. I realllllly suggest you take an opportunity to get a moment like this.
Gift to Your Mom
Ugh, this one always gets me. There’s something about seeing your mom cry that hits you right in the heart and makes you want to squeeze her tight. How precious is this?! I can’t get enough of it. This photo is more than just a wedding picture. I love having this reaction of my mom because this was a very small way to say thank you for everything that you have done for me. Thanks, mom! Doesn’t she look absolutely amazing in her dress?!
You definitely want one like this. It’s a great memory to say thanks mom for everything you have done. This one picture of my mom is worth those million words that I could never perfectly write out. Trust me, you won’t want to miss out on having a touching moment like this.
Veil Shot From Above
When picking out my veil, I fell in love with its dramatic length. It was something I truly admired and thought it completed the look of my dress. I wanted to capture it in an artistic way and this photo idea was all mine on my wedding day so I’m so happy with how it turned out.
When you see the opportunity of stairs, use them to your advantage! It’s a great, unique shot to have of you in your dress with your bouquet and most importantly – your veil! You spent so much time finding the perfect dress and veil make sure you have photos to look back that makes it worth it (especially since veils are NOT cheap).
First Look with Only You and Your Fiance
If you are questioning whether or not to do a first look with your spouse – DO IT! A first look is such a private moment that you and your spouse get to share (more on this to come in a future post because I could go on and on about this). We got so many amazing pictures from our first look and it’s a very special and memorable moment to look back on. We were a ball of mush here too. I’d pay anything to relive this moment.
You will want a private moment of you and your spouse that you can share forever. I’m sure nobody knows about this special moment other than our bridal party (who were not present for this but spying from afar). It’s a great moment to get some wedding jitters out and you will want to spend as most time as you can with your husband (or wife) to be. After all, it is your wedding day and why wait even longer without seeing them?! Okay, grabbing tissues brb.
Non-Posed Bridesmaid Picture
I wasn’t one for funny posed bridal party shots and we didn’t torture our bridal party by making them take a million photos either. We have the perfect amount and I love this effortless look picture. It is so stunning just seeing us having fun, me in my dress, and how gorgeous do these girls look in theirs?!
You will want a picture that looks like you and your best friends are just all hanging out having a great time – except you all look your absolute best and aren’t in yoga pants. It’s a bridal party shot that just emphasizes you and your girlfriends and isn’t too staged.
Detail Dress Shot
This belt for my dress actually gave me the inspiration for my wedding. I wanted something glam/sophisticated, yet whimsical and fun – kate spade inspired. Believe it or not, this gold belt gave me all of my ideas and color palette. The close of up of the lace is absolutely stunning!
You will spend a lot of time thinking about the details of your wedding dress, belt, veil – whatever it may be. Having photos like this will make you think of all the time that went into the planning to make your big day perfect. If you love your belt or veil – make sure to get an artistic shot of it. You will admire it for years to come!
Hand in Hand with Your Hubs
Part of my vows mentioned that whatever adventures we go in life, no matter how big or small, that we will always go hand in hand. The symbolism of this pictures just makes me want to squeak with excitement. It makes me look forward to the best that is yet to come. I love how it’s not a posed shot – it is just us being us.
You are probably thinking “I don’t see what’s so special about this one?” It’s the picture that will only mean something to you and your spouse. It’s raw, real wedding day emotions. It’s “let’s do this forever with each other” and will make your heart smile more than ever!
Special Moment with Your Dad
This shot is not even walking down the aisle with my dad, but walking to the aisle. I love it because we both look so stunning and it really hits me hard. I remember the EXACT way that I was feeling and I can’t say thank you enough to my dad for being by my side my whole life. I love that this is before we walk down the real aisle because it was just us and nobody else. I love you, dad!
Don’t get me wrong, I love the picture of us actually walking down the aisle, but this special moment – with whoever it is walking you down the aisle – this is one that you won’t want to forget.
Hands down, my favorite picture. Every time I see this picture it’s like I’m looking at it for the first time. Immediately, the tears start when I look at this one. Marrying a man that cares about me so much means more than anything. Andy, thank you for loving me like you do. How precious is our officiant, Grace, for comforting him?! She is the sweetest! I also love our best man and groomsman’s reaction too – extra win for catching such an awesome moment!
Capturing your husband’s reaction is a memory to have frozen still in time forever. The look on Andy’s face makes me melt into a pile of mush every time! This type of photo will make you fall love with all over again. It’s a once in a lifetime reaction!
We have plenty of other photos of all three rings: my engagement ring, wedding band, and my husband’s ring. However, there is something so special about this shot with all three rings and our hands together. It makes me feel so complete! This is one picture that I have hung in my home because the symbolism behind this picture means the world to me.
You will want pictures that give you all the feels. What better what to feature your wedding rings than a picture of you and your hubs hands. There is an artistic approach about it that makes it look like this type of picture should be on a magazine cover. This photo will give you good goosebumps on your wedding day!
Bubbly Wife Tip: Don’t wear yourself out taking too many photos. For us, it was more important to have fun on our wedding day and whatever photos we were able to do in the timeframe we allowed in our wedding timeframe – we did in that amount of time. We didn’t want to go over on taking too many photos when it came down to go to our reception because we didn’t want to miss out on our big day. I love how all our pictures turned out and we didn’t make our guests wait too long without us.
I probably could have added so many more photos but these are the shots that are very important to me. There’s plenty of other obvious photos: picture of your dress, dad walking me down the aisle, but these one’s that I needed to share!
Happy wedding planning ladies! What are some of your must-have wedding photos you plan on having taken on your wedding day?!
