Comfort Food for Thought
There is nothing better than waking up on a Sunday and having the whole day wide open to do whatever you want. There are no obligations, no waking up to an alarm, and the day is yours to do absolutely nothing. It’s those Sundays where you can stay in your pajamas as long as you want and watch football all day.
I love those days and there’s nothing better than cuddling up watching the game and making some food for me and my hubs.
I was craving some comfort food this past Sunday, and thought what could be better than cheering on my favorite team while enjoying a big bowl of chili? Oh I know, a chili recipe that you don’t have to feel guilty about the next day when you try to put jeans on – that’s what.
I am not a fan of beans, so I make my chili beanless, but you can incorporate beans into this recipe if you’d like. I choose to use turkey because it’s lower in saturated fat and I prefer the taste. You can substitute ground beef though, no worries!
Crock Pot (Beanless) Turkey Chili
2 lbs of ground turkey
1 fifteen oz can tomato sauce
1 twelve oz can tomato paste
1 green pepper
1 white onion
1 tsp cayenne pepper
2 tsp minced garlic
5 tablespoons chili powder
1 1/2 tsp cumin
1 1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp white sugar
Sharp cheddar cheese (as much or as little as you’d like)
Dollop of low-fat sour cream *optional
Oyster crackers *optional
Place raw ground turkey into crock pot
Dice veggies and mix with ground turkey
Add cayenne pepper, garlic, chili powder, cumin, paprika, and sugar
Add tomato paste and tomato sauce
Stir until fully mixed
Set crock pot on low for 8 hours (or high for 4)
Once your chili is ready, top with cheese, sour cream, and/or oyster crackers and enjoy!
Bubbly Wife Tip: For easy cleanup, use a crock pot liner. It makes cooking with your crock pot all that more convenient since you won’t have to take the time to scrub it clean.
I crave this crock pot turkey chili because it’s so filling, low calorie, and I am able to sneak in some veggies into my diet – but it doesn’t sacrifice on taste!
This recipe is great on a cold day and is the perfect dish to make your home smell wonderful! Not only is it quick and easy, but you can make enough to have leftovers for the work week too!
