new better you
Hello 2017! I love the start of a new year. It’s so exciting to me to know that so much happens in a year and I can’t help but wonder where we will be a year from now.
I clearly remember watching the ball (actually pineapple here in Sarasota) drop a year ago and telling Andy I seriously don’t think 2016 could top 2015. However, to my surprise – it was pretty amazing.
Most people dread the phrase new year resolution – but I love the idea! I’m all about self-reflection and any places in my life that I can improve and grow on, I try to do so.
I decided to pick five different areas of my life to plan goals towards. Life is so unpredictable, but working towards something always makes me feel a sense of self-fulfillment and helps keep me driven rather than sitting on the couch and binge watching Netflix (sometimes those are great days, but I like to keep myself busy with things I want to accomplish too). The fun part of a resolution is that it can be anything you want it to be! It can be fun and silly or deep and meaningful to you. Maybe your resolution is just to have a day to treat yourself to some pampering or it could be getting involved in your community.
I wanted to focus on things I put off and by giving myself goals in different areas I can continue to work and develop these habits throughout 2017.
This year I really want to continue on making more homemade meals. I’ve been cooking way more in the house, but I’d love to continue creating more staple dishes in my home. Andy and I used to make a special, fancy meal every Saturday instead of going out and I’d love to incorporate that idea again and really make some creative, tasty dishes while we dance in the kitchen. I also want to redesign the landscaping in our front yard. I have some great ideas and I would love to get started on them (plus it totally makes me feel like I’m on some HGTV show). Any small improvement in these two areas in my home will make me one happy little lady
Okay, so I have to admit I am a pretty impatient person at times. Sometimes I’m so ‘go go go’ in my head thatI need to remember to enjoy the journey rather than just getting to the destination. That being said, I’m such a goal setter, that I am always planning my next move as soon as accomplishing something that I don’t take the time to appreciate what’s going on around me. This year I want to remember to take a breath and enjoy the littlest moments I sometimes forget about. Sometimes we have to create our own sunshine and not sweat the small stuff.
I want to do some fun dates that we haven’t done before. I realllly want to do a cooking class at Sur La Table – even though I’m a pretty decent cook, I think it would be so fun to make something together and have an instructors guidance and advice along the way! I would love to take a private sunset cruise and sip some bubbly and treat ourselves to some great memories around Sarasota Bay! Another thing I’d like to do more frequently with Andy is to go to new places for brunch – sometimes we go to the same place and while it is good, new restaurants are always exciting!
My two main health goals for this year are to try pure barre classes (since there is a center right near me) and I also want to start rollerblading in Benderson Park that’s near our home. I always see families and couples working out and it inspires me to want to go out and be active. This year I plan to incorporate exercise into things that I enjoy, rather that just doing the dreaded gym workout. Life is too short to not have fun in the things you do.
For the last 4 years, Andy and I plan some sort of travel adventure every year. However, now with the wedding over, we are comfortable in our house, and I am loving and settled in my new job, we would like to take two vacations this year. One being a big trip to Europe, while the other would be a tropical drink in hand type vacation. This year we plan to make this happen now that everything is starting to slow down. Sometimes in life you need to just treat yourself, explore, and make the most of it with the ones you love.
The best part of the new year is that you have 365 days to make something happen. Will I do everything on this list? Maybe, maybe not – but I hope to. That being said, it’s nice to know that some of my most exciting memories of this year are just waiting to happen.
Do you like to set new years resolutions? How do you plan on being the best version of yourself for 2017?!
