Love Makes the World Go Round
Valentine’s Day is a holiday some people don’t bat an eye at. However, any opportunity to celebrate the every day – I love. Yes, I partake in Valentine’s Day festivities!
I love candy conversation hearts and red heart suckers. Chocolate covered strawberries – yup, I crave them! My parents even mailed us the cutest little Valentine’s Day package (no wonder I get into celebrating the smallest of holidays. Thanks, Mom)!
Soooo you better believe the hubs and I try to do something to make the weekday/end fun! When you’ve been together since college you just have too much fun doing cheesy things together. Our first Valentine’s Day, Andy tried to open a bottle wine with a screwdriver (oh, the college days).
Anyways, I wanted to share my favorite way to feel the love a little more this Valentine’s Day. Here are some of my favorite date ideas to celebrate Valentine’s Day!
There’s something about treating yourself to “you” time together as a couple that is so relaxing. Yesterday, my hubs and I did a couples massage and it was just what we needed. We haven’t taken the time to do a spa day since our honeymoon.
A couples massage is also like taking the best power nap: you feel great afterward and are ready to conquer the day. Complimentary wine- yes, please! We wish we took more time out of our busy schedules to do this, so Valentine’s Day was the perfect excuse.
Groupon is always a great way to try a new spa near you and they often have couple massages available. Make sure you arrive a little earlier than your scheduled appointment because most spa’s make you fill out paperwork ahead of time before you start your massage.
What is better than taking a road trip or booking a ticket and escaping the ordinary for a little bit?! Our airport tradition is to arrive a little early to make sure we have time to grab some drinks before our flight.
Last year Andy and I took a flight out to spend a long weekend in Nashville. Country music, hot chicken and BBQ, and lots of fun bars – what could be better?! It was also the perfect excuse to wear my puffy kate spade winter jacket!
It was a fun to go somewhere we had not done before. Take some time to get away and spend some time with the one you love in a new city you can fall in love with!
Even if you don’t want to book a flight out, there’s always an adventure around the corner by taking a simple day trip! Wine tastings, theme parks, local art museums – whatever it may be – you can have fun doing something out of the ordinary in your own backyard.
Nothing says I love you like sharing some sushi rolls together! Sushi is one of our favorites and we have some favorite spots we enjoy going to.
We are sure to make a reservation and take a little drive out to our favorite sushi spot.
Whether it is sushi or your favorite local restaurant – there’s always a lot of Valentine’s Day menu specials restaurants offer, so be sure to check them out! We didn’t try sushi until a few years ago, so we decided to try it together on Valentine’s Day at a spot in downtown Sarasota for lunch. Don’t be intimidated if you haven’t ordered sushi before – we just explained it was our first time and the waitress was incredibly helpful (shrimp tempura is one of my favorites)!
Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to try that one restaurant you have been meaning to go to or try a new genre of food that you don’t typically get!
Home Cooked Meal
If you don’t feel like getting ready and going out – this is one of my favorites! One year for Valentine’s Day, Andy made me a four-course Italian meal in our kitchen which was not only adorable, but so tasty.
No reservation or getting ready required. It was nice just sipping on some prosecco while he cooked for me. He did amazing and even made these awesome bacon-wrapped, cheese filled dates that are now one of my favorite recipes!
Whether it’s you or your loved one cooking, there’s something about making a meal for one another or cooking together that makes dinner that much more special. It’s even fun to dress up (if you feel like it that is…) and just cook and dance the night away in your kitchen. Cooking on Valentine’s Day is a much different feeling than the normal Monday-Friday cooking routine when you make something a little more involved than usual.
Some of our favorite fancy dinner meals include filet with red wine reduction sauce, scallops, spaghetti carbonara, and lobster ravioli!
Feeling extra fancy – homemade chocolate covered strawberries are a Valentine’s Day must have! Ever since our first Valentine’s Day in college, Andy surprised me with making me chocolate covered strawberries – so it’s always a tradition that we make them together from now on every Valentine’s Day.
A Night Out on the Town
Sometimes the best dates are when you get dressed up and go out for some of your favorite drinks out on the town.
After dinner, whether it’s at home or your favorite restaurant, make a point to go to some fancy bars and get some handcrafted cocktails.
A few of my favorite drinks are French 75 from Social and the strawberry basil fizz from Red Clasico. I love walking hand in hand downtown while laughing the night away. Andy and I have some of our best long night conversations out on the town.
It’s nice to get out of a normal routine and grab some drinks and enjoy spending time with the one you love.
Even if you didn’t celebrate Valentine’s Day this weekend – you still have time! (and I hope this makes the planning a little easier)
